First time in an Honor Ensemble?
Since many Middle School students have not participated in nor seen something like this for music, please do your part in educating them and their parents as to what it can be and review the material with students, including the student information letter. Below, I have a modification to the letter as suggested by one of our seasoned directors. Please consider using it or making modifications to it yourself to help further make sure students and parents understand the expectations of an Honor ensemble. That in mind, I would like to make sure all of you know the basic run-down of the audition.
Auditioning students will need to:
● Show up at least 30 minutes early to the audition to warm up;
● Have all scales memorized for maximum score at a tempo expressing fluency;
● Bring their own audition excerpt to perform from;
● Be prepared to sight read a short excerpt; and
When you make the group:
● Present and on time for all rehearsals;
● Preparation expectation (“can play through music and are prepared with questions about trouble-spots”);
● Pencils at every rehearsal;
● 11:30 performance call time in Concert attire (School Concert attire but, please, no t-shirts or jeans).
